In accordance to Texas House Bill 2038 (Natasha's Law), if a student athlete is suspected of having a concussion during practice or game play, the athlete must be immediately removed from activity and cleared by an MD or DO. The Hutto ISD concussion paperwork has been updated (July 2026) with the guidance of the concussion oversight team, Dr. Kendrick Watkins and Head Athletic Trainer Elizabeth Delgado.
The diagnosing MD/DO will determine if the 5 step return to play protocol is required. The athlete must complete their return to learn restrictions before being able to move onto the 5 step return to play process. The athlete must be 24 hours symptom free before beginning. If the athlete experiences symptoms during one of the 5 steps, the athlete must stop immediately and that step must be repeated after 24 hours. If the athlete continues to have symptoms, they must return to the initial diagnosing MD/DO.
